Naled/Dibrom
ACUTE SYMPTOMS:
Symptoms of acute exposure to organophosphate or cholinesterase-inhibiting compounds may include the following:
Acute cholinesterase depression may be evidenced by headache, numbness, tingling sensations, incoordination, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal
cramps, excessive sweating, salivation and tearing, constricted pupils, blurred vision, tightness in chest, weakness, muscle twitching and confusion; in
extreme cases, unconsciousness, convulsions, severe respiratory depression, slow heartbeat and death may occur.

This product is expected to be corrosive to the respiratory tract, and if inhaled, may cause symptoms that include nasal discharge, sore throat, coughing,
bronchitis, pulmonary edema and difficulty breathing.

SIGNS OF CHRONIC OVEREXPOSURE:
Repeated exposures to small doses of Naled and other organophosphates may lower the cholinesterase to levels where the above symptoms of acute overexposure
are observed.

Some people may confuse the pesticide symptoms for the flu or heat exhaustion since most symptoms are similar(except for the numbness and tingling).

Symptoms reported locally:  allergic reactions-mucous/"head cold" type symptoms, asthma,  bowel (unusual type of constipation), unusual lethargy,  nausea,  severe vomiting.  One case of unconsciousness  required hospitalization-maybe related to Naled insect traps prior to 7/29.
Dog - sick/vomiting.

If you are experiencing symptoms contact a doctor immediately let the doctor know that you have been exposed to Naled/Dibrom from the Oriental Fruit
Fly Eradication program and would like to have your CHOLINESTERASE checked. Dr. Robert Mathis has taken an interest in providing us with some authentic diagnostic proof of our symptoms to possible Naled exposure. For an appointment with Dr. Mathis please call 569-7100.
